Purpose of Life: Vision – What Do You See?

In the quest for a purposeful and meaningful life, vision plays a pivotal role. Vision is the ability to see beyond the present, to imagine a future that is different and better, and to guide our steps towards that future. The biblical passage from Habakkuk 2:2-3 (ESV) offers profound insights into the nature and power of vision. It emphasizes the importance of clarity, patience, and faith in the pursuit of our goals. This article explores the purpose of life through the lens of vision as described in this scripture, and how we can apply these timeless principles to our own journeys.

Understanding Habakkuk 2:2-3

The verses from Habakkuk read:

“And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

These words were given to the prophet Habakkuk during a time of turmoil and uncertainty. They serve as a divine instruction on how to handle vision and its fulfillment.

Write the Vision; Make It Plain

This command underscores the importance of clarity and communication. A vision must be clearly articulated and easily understood so that it can inspire action and commitment. Understanding the purpose of life through the lens of using vision can transform how you approach challenges, inspire others, and create lasting change.

Awaits Its Appointed Time

Vision requires patience and faith. The fulfillment of a vision is often not immediate; it happens in its own time. This teaches us to trust in the process and remain steadfast even when progress seems slow. I am now seeing the fulfillment of my vision after 20 years of faith and preparation. Your vision may not take that long but go in slowly and allow things to unfold in the appointed time.

It Will Surely Come; It Will Not Delay

This assurance emphasizes the certainty of the vision’s fulfillment. Despite apparent delays, a true vision will come to pass. This encourages perseverance and unwavering belief in the vision. My vision for business first started with APT Enterprises, Bringing all visions to life. I operated that business for 14 years. I had many bumps and changes along the path. But eventually The Life Calling Coach came to pass, which is the fulfillment of the original vision with adjustments over time.

Applying Vision to Your Life

The principles from Habakkuk 2:2-3 can be applied to various aspects of your life, from personal growth to professional aspirations and community leadership. Here’s how you can incorporate these teachings into our pursuit of a purposeful life:

Clarify Your Vision: Just as the scripture advises to write the vision and make it plain, you should take the time to clearly define your core values, goals, and intentions. This involves deep self-reflection to understand your core values, passions, calling, purpose, and the impact you are called to make. Writing down your vision helps solidify it and makes it more tangible.

Communicate Effectively: A clear vision must be communicated effectively to others who may be involved in its realization. Whether it’s sharing your vision with a team, family, or community, clarity in communication ensures that everyone understands the goal and their role in achieving it. This shared understanding fosters unity and coordinated action.

Be Patient and Trust the Timing: The passage reminds you that visions have their appointed time. Patience is crucial. You must trust that the steps you are taking today are leading you toward your vision, even if the progress isn’t immediately visible. This involves maintaining faith and staying committed to your path, despite challenges and delays.

Persevere with Faith: Believing in the certainty of your vision’s fulfillment is essential. This faith acts as a source of strength and motivation, helping you to persevere through difficulties. It’s about holding on to the assurance that your efforts will bear fruit in due time.

Living with a vision means continually aligning your actions with your goals and intentions. Here are some practical steps to live a vision-driven life:

  • Set Intentions: Setting intentions for vision involves creating a clear and purposeful direction for your future, focusing on your aspirations and the outcomes you desire. This process helps align your actions with your long-term goals and values, providing a roadmap to achieve your vision.
  • Set Milestones: Break down your vision into smaller, manageable milestones. This makes the journey less daunting and allows you to track progress incrementally.
  • Stay Flexible: While having a clear vision is important, flexibility is equally crucial. Be open to adjusting your plans as circumstances change, while keeping your ultimate vision in sight.
  • Surround Yourself with Support: Engage with people who support your vision and can contribute to its realization. A strong support network can provide encouragement, advice, and collaboration.
  • Reflect and Reassess: Periodically reflect on your vision and progress. Reassessing your goals ensures they remain relevant and aligned with your evolving values and circumstances.

Example of Setting Intentions for Vision

  1. Vision: “I intend to create a balanced, fulfilling life where I contribute to the well-being of others through my work as a wellness coach.”
  2. Goals:
    • Complete wellness coaching certification by [specific date].
    • Launch a wellness coaching business within one year.
    • Build a client base of at least 20 clients within the first six months of business.
  3. Action Plan:
    • Enroll in and complete a reputable wellness coaching program.
    • Develop a business plan and marketing strategy.
    • Network with potential clients and partners in the wellness community.
    • Set up a website and social media profiles to promote services.

The purpose of life, illuminated by the power of vision, involves seeing beyond the present and working towards a future that aligns with your deepest values, purpose, your calling, and intentions. The guidance from Habakkuk 2:2-3 (ESV) teaches you the importance of clarity, patience, and unwavering faith in your vision. By writing your vision clearly, communicating it effectively, trusting in its timing, and persevering with faith, you can lead a life of purpose and fulfillment. Vision not only directs your personal journey but also has the power to inspire and mobilize those around you, creating a ripple effect of positive change, progress, and purpose.
